Around the World - The 33rd Stop, Perth, Western Australia, Australia
Perth is the capital and largest city of the Australian State of Western Australia. With an estimated population of 1.97 million, it’s the fourth most populous city in Australia. Perth is located on the Swan River, the river named after the native black swans, and framed by stunning clean Indian Ocean beaches and beautiful Swan Valley vineyards.
Perth is known for its natural beauty, relaxed pace and – sunshine. Well, the city is a particularly sunny, with an average of 8.8 hours of sunshine per day. Summers are very hot and dry, lasting from December to late March, with February generally being the hottest month of the year. On most summer afternoons a sea breeze, also known as the ‘Fremantle doctor’, blows from the southwest, providing relief from the hot north-easterly winds. That’s for those in need. For me, the climate in Perth is more than perfect.
We arrived Perth on 26th January from Adelaide, South Australia and couldn't have chosen a better day, hence it was Australia Day, the official national day of this beautiful country. As a result, we found ourselves in the middle of a terrific celebration in Langley Park and got chance to enjoy the most stunning fireworks and lightning shows above the Swan River.
We had rented a nice house in East Victoria Park and after settling ourselves down, devoted almost three weeks for just doing ‘nothing’. With all those awesome beaches and the shimmering blue Swan River, Perth is a place where you swim, surf, fish, windsurf and sail. With two kids, aged 1 & 3, we settled for swimming and just hanging at the beach and taking long afternoon walks along the river past skyscrapers and green parks. And in the evenings - strolling (or great shopping) in lively city centre or just relaxing in our house (or kissing in the front yard). Those laid-back Aussie -days, one could say.
We visited Perth two years ago - just so happy to be back.
