Around the World - The 44th Stop, Cortina, Veneto, Italy, Europe
Cortina d'Ampezzo is a town in the Veneto region in Northern Italy. It's in the Dolomites (le Dolomiti) @ the eastern half of the Italian Alps.
Situated in an alpine valley and on the Boite river, Cortina is a popular winter sport resort known for its skiing trails, scenery, accommodation, shops and après-ski scene, and for its jet set and aristocratic European crowd. In the summer months the town is a good hiking centre for walkers, as well as for mountain bikers.
If you don't fancy those demanding mountain footpaths, there are plenty of pleasant excursions using cable-cars and buses which will take you to spectacular viewpoints and mountain restaurants - and with your own car, you'll find some spectacular drives and reasonably quiet roads.
