A trip to San Gimignano, a small stone walled medieval hill town in the province of Siena, Tuscany, north-central Italy. Known as the Town of Fine Towers, San Gimignano is famous for its medieval architecture.
In the middle ages, this city boasted 72 towers, and now 14 towers remain, rising up like a medieval Manhattan. The very high Cugnanesi Tower is one of the 14 survivors in San Gimignano. It dates from the 13th century and is one of the tallest in the city.
The Torre Grossa (Big Tower), 54 meters high is then the highest one, and the only one, along with the twin towers known as Torri dei Salvucci, open to the public.
On the top, amazing views of the town and surrounding countryside.
