Around the World - The 35th Stop, Fremantle, Western Australia, Australia
Fremantle is a dynamic port city locating at the mouth of the Swan River on the West Coast of Western Australia. It’s part of the Perth metropolitan area and just 30 minutes from Perth's city centre. It’s one of Western Australia’s most historic and most beautiful cities and well known for its architectural heritage - of a variety and unity of historic 19th-century buildings. But Fremantle is not known only for its architecture, but also for its art and especially its vibrant music scene. In addition Freo provides good range of cultural activities, along various small art galleries and then there’s also the famous Fremantle Markets, numerous restaurants, cafés and a good mixture of microbreweries.
We moved to East Fremantle from Perth's East Victoria Park and stayed there in a beautifully restored early 20th-century house for a few days over 5 weeks. The house was perfect. Kids basically moved to the backyard pool and I myself was thrilled about the lovely light inside and around the house, hence had endless ideas to shoot the kids. (You can find a few (non-violent) shooting sessions also from my earlier blog posts: Making New Friends in Freo - My Sweet Lollipops - A Pool Day).
As we had spent a couple of weeks in Fremantle already on February-March 2012, we were quite familiar with what this fabulous city had to offer. So instead of doing any sightseeing or ‘touristic’ trips, we just enjoyed the absolutely perfect weather, beautiful surroundings and relaxed atmosphere. So it was pool days, beach days and park days with lazy mornings and long evening runs in gorgeous sunsets. And off course, great dining experiences, especially in George Street’s many nice restaurants, cafés and wine bars.
Yet the absolute highlight of our fabulous Fremantle weeks was the Christening Party of a beautiful baby boy Orlando, to which we participated hence Hans was honored to be Orlando’s Godfather. Thank You Guys & Thank You Freo – was fabulous to meet again! We’ll miss You!
